saddlebag toolbox lockbox bashplate / water container fuel tank windshield front rack cockpit rear rack

Everything we could possibly need while travelling is carried on these bikes, so every space has something tied, bolted or stuck onto it.
Move over the image of the bike above for a quick description of the specialised components on our bikes.
Saddlebags
More storage space. As low down and forward on the bike as possible to improve weight distribution. I'm going for leather saddlebags, for the aesthetic appeal really. The saddlebags are supported by a frame.
Toolbox
Mounted on the front of the bashplate, this is where we'll store all the required tools, it'll be long enough to handle the tyre irons and strong arms.
Lockbox
I'm planning on refitting the back end of my cycle to incorporate a lockable box. This will store my electronics, tent and sleeping bag and anything else not easily replacable.
Integrated bashplate and water tank
There is plenty of ground clearance on the XR, we're using a bit of it to mount an integrated engine protector and a water tank. Riding through deserts requires a lot of water and this tank should be able to hold about 10 litres of water, way down low to help with the bike's stability.
Fueltank
Aftermarket Acerbis fuel tank. Holds about 23 litres. With this and a 20 litre jerry strapped on the rear rack we should have a max. range of about 700 km.
Windshield
Aftermarket windshields to make road work more enjoyable.
Front rack
A little space above the mudguard, ideal for tying on the wet weather gear. This rack also incorporates a towing eye and brackets to mount a couple of micro spotlights.
Cockpit
Fitted with a GPS for navigation, a small lockable glovebox and cigarette lighter plugs for running music players, the GPS and other electronics.
Rear rack
The top of the lock box is a good place to tie extra stuff to, groundsheets, ponchos, extra fuel that sort of thing.
